During the planning phases of TRACE, a large residential community in San Marcos, the commercial landscaping company on the project reached out directly to SUNDEK of Austin about concrete resurfacing. Developers were planning a private amenity center for the community and wanted SUNDEK of Austin to install the pool deck and cabana surfaces.
After several meetings and samples, SUNDEK, LandArt, and the developer agreed that Classic Texture would be perfect for the pool deck. Classic Texture, SUNDEK’s knockdown texture product, is an ideal solution for this location because of several reasons. First, the product is formulated to create a non-slip surface, even when it gets wet. This quality makes it desirable for community and residential pool decks, waterparks, and other locations where water is present and people will be walking around with bare feet.

In addition to being slip resistant, Classic Texture remains more temperate than a plain slab of concrete, even when it’s extremely hot out. Pool-goers can walk around with bare feet and sit on the deck all throughout the summer without discomfort.
When it came to choosing a color for the 4,000-square-foot pool deck, TRACE opted for Pewter Gray. In addition to providing a neutral shade for the space, the light color also contributes to keeping the deck cool over summer.
For the cabana space, where color was requested, SUNDEK used SunAcid to stain the surface. SunAcid is a muriatic acid-based coloring system that reacts with the minerals and salts in the concrete to create a translucent mottled appearance. Because the stain interacts with the concrete, the result is a stunning, unique surface that can’t be replicated.
